“One of the leading avant-garde guitarists, whose prolific work ranges from folk-like lyricism to feedback-drenched free improvisation.” – AllMusic.com

For more than 50 years, Fred Firth has been an iconic force within the global avant-garde community. Frith’s diverse musical curriculum vitae includes collaborations with Brian Eno, The Residents, Violent Femmes, John Zorn’s Naked City, the Rova Saxophone Quartet, and many others. Frith’s discography boasts over 400 recordings, his inimitable style borrowing freely from folk/blues roots, discordant “heavy” music, world music, modern composition, and cinematic soundscapes.

Also on the bill is Emily Denison performing a solo trumpet set. Denison’s unique voice on the trumpet has established her as a highly sought-after musician. Having lived in Toronto and Montreal before relocating to Kelowna, she has led several projects, including her own septet as well as being a member of guitarist Ken Aldcroft’s Convergence Ensemble, Juno award winning saxophonist Christine Jensen’s Equals Orchestra, and drummer Nick Fraser’s New Quartet. Denison is a certified music therapist (MTA) and co-founder of the Kelowna Jazz Society.
